|FFRF Donation to 3631 Members put on COVID-19 Leave|
March 16, 2020
Local 3631 Brothers and Sisters:
Your Orange County Professional Firefighters Association, IAFF Local 3631 Executive Board fought for MOU provisions (Article XI, Section 3.A) ensuring pay for members whom are designated to be absent from duty due to exposure to contagious diseases. This is especially important to know as our world changes every day with the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
In addition, the OCPFA Executive Board and our legal counsel, Adams, Ferrone & Ferrone, contend that the OCFA should be responsible for the cost of the lodging of members whom are designated to be absent from duty or their families; however, despite our best efforts, the OCFA is unwilling to provide such accommodations which would be helpful to ensure peace of mind for you and your families. After all, it makes no sense to send a potentially exposed OCFA member back to home quarantine where they could further expose other family members – particularly those who are elderly or health-compromised – to this virus. President Steging is meeting with Chief Fennessy this week to further express our concerns.
In consideration of the harm that sending our members home could place on their families and loved ones, the OCPFA Executive Board has unanimously authorized a one-time Fallen Firefighter Relief Fund donation of $2,000 for any Local 3631 member in good standing placed on paid Authority leave with a 14-day quarantine due to a medium or high COVID-19 virus exposure. Affected members shall contact Treasurer Tantuvanich at email@example.com to receive their donation.
Additionally, effective immediately the OCPFA office will be closed to all members and the public unless they have an appointment. Your OCPFA Executive Board will continue to meet for Executive Board Meetings and all pertinent information will continue to be sent to our members on a regular basis. In addition, all monthly general membership meetings are cancelled until further notice. Any agenda items that members in good standing wish to be brought forward at these meetings may be addressed with Secretary Cabrera who can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
If any member has any union-related questions or concerns regarding any COVID-19 issue, contact Vice President Gibson at (949) 280-2154 or email@example.com
