OCFA Helicopter Performs Rescue

Lake Fire – HC3 Performs Rescue

ORC Helicopter-3 is Out of County currently assigned as the Rescue Medivac Hoist Aircraft for the Lake Fire. On 6-29-15 at 1705, HC-3 was called for a hoist operations for a firefighter injury on the Lake Incident in Big Bear. The hoist operation was for a Hotshot firefighter in a remote location in Div-R located at 7400 feet. HC-3 with the aircrew, Pilot, Crew Chief and Paramedic Rescuer performed a hoist insertion and extraction operation. The aircrew performed a hoist pick off procedure, the Rescue Paramedic was hoisted down to the firefighter and used a pick off strap which he attached to the injured firefighter. Once the pickoff strap was attached to the injured fireman both of them together were hoisted into the aircraft. Incident Command and General staff were very pleased with the professional operations from OCFA during the fire. This is the second hoist operation since HC-3 has been assigned to the incident.

HOT WEATHER TIPS Heat is the number one weather-related killer in the United States. On average, excessive heat claims more lives each year than floods, lightning, tornadoes and hurricanes combined. When the body heats too quickly to cool itself safely, or when you lose too much fluid or salt through dehydration or sweating, your body temperature rises and heat-related illness may develop.
