Fallen Firefighters Relief Fund

Founded in 1998 to aid the families of two Orange County Fire Authority firefighters lost in the line-of-duty, The Fallen Fire Fighters Relief Fund has donated over $70,000 to families in immediate need. The fund, supported by Orange County citizens and employees of the Orange County Fire Authority, has time and again stepped forward with immediate relief to ease the grief and hardship of these catastrophic losses. The Fund is completely tax exempt and incurs no administrative costs so that 100% of funds received can be utilized as aid when necessary.
Administration of the Fund is through the Orange County Professional Firefighters Association under the Fund’s own by-laws and governing committee. In time of need, there is a stepped criteria for the amount of funds released with the highest priority being Orange County Fire Authority firefighters, followed by other Orange County firefighters, state, and national trust funds upon request. During the period of September 11 through October 16, 2001 all funds collected were directed to the Fire Department New York and its related trust funds.
The Fallen Fire Fighters Relief Fund now has four major funding sources; Fallen Fire Fighter Golf Tournament, Fallen Fire Fighter Fishing Derby, payroll deduction (United Way), and the Antique Fire Extinguisher collection project. In addition, professional firefighters and fire associations throughout Southern California are among the largest contributors to the Fund (reaffirming that we take care of our own) with a number of corporations providing assistance and sponsorship on a year round bases.
